2 Hobbit Films

Well, from the rumors (and at the time that's all they were) that sprouted up months ago, when they were first discussing doing two movies, one would actually be The Hobbit, while the other would be based on Tolkien-written lore surrounding the Ring and the LotR characters, bridging to the two works. How they could manage this, I'm not sure--I imagine it would require getting the Estate's approval, which I just don't see happening--but that was the rumor at the time.
Personally, I'll do exactly what I did with LotR...I will go into it with two minds: one as a Tolkien fan, the other as a fantasy movie fan. I will read every artcile and spoiler I can leading up to the movie, so I won't get utterly surprised by stuff that the Tolkien fan in me will detest, so I can enjoy the movies as movies. Jackson's trilogy ranks in my top five movies of all time, but I think they are lousy LotR movies--many of the changes (I would venture to say most of the changes) he made were unnecessary and did not even vaguely conform to the Spirit of the Lore. But they're great fantasy movies.

This is great news. There will be 2 Hobbit films and what is even better is that Peter Jackson will not butcher them like he did the LotR series. He is only going to produce them.
